a sample class rap. thanks Allie Gardner! --------------------- Class Rap for Student Hourly Employee Campaign Kickoff Thanks Professor _______________. Hi all/everyone/folks, My name is ________________, and I wanted to talk to you about student worker's rights. How many of you have a job on campus? Okay cool so as students, we obviously don't just go to class. We're involved in student organizations, we take on internships, and we're campus workers. We work in the libraries, dining halls, departmental offices, the Union, the SERF and NAT. You can pretty much find us working everywhere on campus. There are __(# of student hourlies)___ student hourly employees on campus. How many people know who to contact or what to do if they feel they're being treated unfairly in the work place? (if someone raises their hand just see what they say, whatever) The fact that so many of us can find employment on campus is great, but the fact we aren't informed about what to do if our schedules or pay change, if we're being asked to take on tasks that aren't in our job description, if we aren't supplied with a job description, etc. is a real problem. Additionally, there aren't standard protections for all student hourly employees on campus, and as we know, there are campus jobs where students are making minimum wage even though we're paying for increasing tuition and text books, along with housing and the other expenses associated with being a college student like school supplies and a six pack of Hopalicious (omitable). If you are a student employee, if you have been in the past, or if you plan on becoming one, we're asking you to come to our campaign kickoff this Saturday the 28th. We will be discussing ways students can support each other to make sure all ___(# of student hourlies)_______ of us are being treated fairly in the work place. If you're interested in finding out more, fill out the cards I passed out earlier with your contact information so we can get in touch with you about the kickoff this weekend or future opportunities to be involved. Thanks again! -------
