1 in 10 workers in this country who try to form a union are fired.
Two of these workers are Debbie Rasmussen and Julie Thayer, they worked at the Whole Foods market, right here in Madison.
Debbie and Julie were set up and fired by Whole Foods management for no reason other than that they helped to organize the first historic union at any Whole Foods in the country.
Ostensibly, Debbie was fired because when she made a latte with soy milk instead of skim milk, she decided that rather than throw it away, she would give it to Julie. This kind of thing happens every day in the store, in every department, and when it has been punished, it has never been with a firing.

Unfair Labor Practice charges have been filed by the union that represents our store, UFCW Local 1444. However, these charges alone will not get Debbie and Julie their jobs back.
On Monday, December 2nd, people from all over the country will be calling Whole Foods for the NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION AGAINST WHOLE FOODS UNION-BUSTING In Madison, we ask that they call the local store. On November 20, Julie Thayer and Debbie Rasmussen were fired from the Madison, WI Whole Foods. I am writing you to demand that Julie Thayer and Debbie Rasmussen be given their jobs back immediately. Their firing was unjust and excessive, and they were targetted because of the fact that they support their union. In addition, I demand that Whole Foods sign a contract with the union that represents workers at Whole Foods Madison, UFCW Local 1444. I will tell my friends, family, neighbors and community about the violation of human rights that Whole Foods Market is perpetrating on the employees of its Madison store if this behavior is not stopped immediately. Again, I reiterate, Debbie Rasmussen and Julie Thayer must be reinstated immediately, and Whole Foods must respect the democratic right of its workers to be members of a union, and sign a contract!
